Remember the news, last week, that those barbaric Israelis bombed Gaza\’s Shifa Hospital, killing all those people?
Unbelievable. What inhumane animals.
Except…
We have this, from Aishi Zidan, a Finnish reporter (and, as it turns out, an apparently anti-Israeli one).
Excerpted from an article in the Jerusalem Post:
AFinnish journalist for the daily newspaper HelsinginSanomat saidin a report that was uploaded to YouTube on Friday that Hamasterrorists launched a rocket attack at Israel from a hospital.
Aishi Zidan said a rocket was fired at Israel at 2:00 a.m.,”right in the back parking lot of the Shifa Hospital in Gaza.”
She recalled a really loud sound, following the attack, andadded that “it\’s true that rockets are launched here from theGazan side into Israel.”
“But wait”, you might say. “That\’s the Jerusalem Post, which is an Israeli paper. So how do I know she really said it?”
Fair enough. Here\’s the video:
You\’d think that would pretty much clear things up, wouldn\’t you?
But – incredibly – Ms. Zidan is now outraged that her words are being quoted to show that Israel had a rock-solid basis for firing at the hospital. Here, in its entirety, is her statement about it:
“Don\’tuse me as your propaganda weapon
“Ispent a night at the Shifa hospital in Gaza two weeks ago. I wascovering the situation in Gaza for my newspaper.
“Mystory was about the Palestinian civilians who were victims of war. Myarticle started with a story of four little boys who were killed onthe beach the same day. They were playing on the beach when Israeliarmy hit them without any clear reason or warning. I interviewed aboy who survived from the attack. The Shifa hospital was full ofwomen and children who were victims of this ugly war. I describedtheir stories in detail.
“Duringthe night someone launched a rocket somewhere behind the hospital. Now this sentence from my article is spreading in the pro-Israelimedias. I mentioned this in my article because I\’m a professionaljournalist. I try to cover the events truthfully as I see them and Istrongly condemn these kind of actions.
“ButI find it very disgusting how this one sentence was taken out contextto be used as an excuse to target civilians in Gaza. My story becamequickly a tool of propaganda. The people sharing this story are noteven trying to understand the situation as a whole. They are justlooking for excuses to Israeli actions in Gaza.
I”refuse to be part of this kind of propaganda.”
Translation:
“I am reporting the depredations of Israel and its military. That is my story. Nothing else.
“How dare you note that I somehow let it slip that the grounds of Shifa Hospital was being used to launch attacks against Israel – therefore insuring that Israel would return fire to take out the launching equipment and prevent further attacks.
“And how dare you expect that the fact that Israel\’s action is a direct consequence of hamas\’ intentional use of that hospital for its attack. How dare you expect that part of my story might be that hamas intentionally maximized the prospects for there to be dead hospital patients? And how dare you think that I might even consider the possibility that those four boys who were killed on the beach may have died under exactly the same circumstances – that hamas wants dead children for its propaganda purposes.
“I already told you: I am reporting the depredations of Israel and its military. That is my story. Nothing else.”
That, readers, is the “news coverage” Israel is being subjected to. That, to the Aishi Zidans of the world, is how to report from Gaza.
How do you like it?
