Today’s quotes (there are two of them) come to us from Rep. ilhan omar (D-MN).
As you are probably aware, yesterday federal authorities raided Rep. omar’s Washington D.C. home, claiming to be looking for material of a criminal nature. And, not surprisingly, an outraged Rep. Omar had a highly negative reaction to this raid.
Said omar, via X:
“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
However….in 2022, federal authorities raided then ex-President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago home, claiming to be looking for classified documents he was illegally holding (an interesting claim, given that, assuming he took those documents when President, Trump could unilaterally have declared every one of them unclassified). And here is what Rep. Omar had to say about that
“Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.
“Now it is up to all of us, as citizens and elected leaders, to support accountability and to follow the facts where they lead.’ ‘No one is above the law.”
Oops.
I award Rep. ilhan omar Quotes Of The Day “honors” for as overt a display of hypocrisy as you will ever find.
But, look at the bright side: as a member of congress who has never had a single bill she introduced become law – not one – at least she finally managed to accomplish something.
