Let\’s talk about a War On Women. I mean a real War On Women, not the BS one concocted by Democrats and, more generally, the left, to keep low information voters in the fold.
Would insisting that unsafe abortion clinics – i.e. clinics which are not qualified for admitting privileges to hospitals – be allowed to operate, be considered part of a War On Women?
If your answer is yes – or even if it is no – you should be very interested in the following excerpts from Kristan Hawkins\’ article at dailycaller.com:
Forthe second time in as many weeks, back-to-back rulings in the Southhave declared laws that require abortionists to obtain admittingprivileges to nearby hospitals unconstitutional and haltedenforcement. Both the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and a U.S.District Court Judge handed down similar rulings that have peoplescratching their heads.
TheFifth Circuit ruled thatthe Mississippi law requiring abortionists to have admittingprivileges to nearby hospitals was unconstitutional because, inessence, it would force the last remaining abortion facility in allof the state to close. Since the abortionists were unable to obtainadmitting privileges and the abortion facility would close, the courtsaid that under Roev. Wade, which gave women a constitutional right to abort their child for anyreason at any time, would impose an “undue burden” on that right.
Women\’srights groups should be outraged that women have to go to abortionfacilities where doctors don\’t have admitting privileges to nearbyhospitals. They claim, as Bill Clinton first espoused, that they wantabortion to be “safe, legal and rare.” If they want it to besafe, why would they oppose a common sense regulation that seeks toprotect women from doctors like Kermit Gosnell? Just look atthe havoche wrecked on the lives of the women he treated. Severalwere seriously injured and others died at his hands. Same for otherabortionists like LeRoyCarhart and DouglasKarpen.
I\’m pretty certain that Ms. Hawkins is against all or most abortions, and probably all or most contraceptive products as well. If so, as any regular reader of this blog knows, she and I very much disagree.
However, Ms. Hawkins raises an extremely important point: If abortion clinics cannot get admitting privileges to a hospital, every woman who goes to one of them is in danger.
Hawkins raises the specter of kermit gosnell, Leroy carhart and douglas karpen, all of whom I have written about in my own blogs. gosnell ran what amounted to a mass murder mill and will be in jail for the rest of his sorry life. carhart and karpen, both of whom still operate in their respective states, are, in my opinion, not much better, if at all.
Regarding the clinics themselves, if admitting privileges are being withheld because, though the quality of a clinic is acceptable, the hospitals\’ administrations are anti-abortion, then by all means sue them…and I hope you win. The law is the law.
But if they are being withheld because a clinic does not meet even minimal standards, then either get the clinic up to those standards or close it down. Women\’s lives are at risk there.
You want a war on women? Demanding that sub-par abortion mills, without hospital admitting privileges, stay in operation is a war on women.
