In the past several days President Trump has seemingly made it clear he is going to negotiate with vladimir putin to end the war in the Ukraine…while, at the same time, attacking Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as, among other things, a “dictator without elections” and – incredibly – accusing him rather than putin of starting the war.
Trump’s exact words (bold print is mine):
“I think I have the power to end this war, and I think it’s going very well. Today I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it three years — you should have never started it. You could have made a deal. I could have made a deal for Ukraine that would have given them almost all of the land. Everything, almost all of the land. And no people would have been killed and no city would have been demolished, and not one dome would have been knocked down. But they chose not to do it that way.”
My question (in several parts): what the hell is Trump talking about What is he doing? How does he figure Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine was caused by Zelensky? How does he think antagonizing Zelensky is going to move anything forward?
Maybe there is some method to this. Maybe somehow in some way this is going to work toward an end to the Russia/Ukraine conflict that is at least somewhat ok for Zelensky.
But I have to say that, as of now, I don’t see it. Do you?
Maybe Trump should just shut the hell up for once. If nothing else, it would be a refreshing change of pace.
