I have a question for mainstream media – not all of them but whichever fit…which is to say most of them.
When the tea party movement came into prominence, you had no problem finding the tiny number of people who brought signs with tacitly or overtly offensive messages to tea party rallies – especially racist messages. And a great many – not all, but a great many – of you had no problem projecting those few instances into an overall definition of the tea party movement – even when it became clear that some of them were plants from left wingers who knew you\’d be receptive to demonizing the tea party (here\’s just one example).
For the past four months we have had protesters demanding “justice” – as they define it – for Michael Brown and then Eric Garner.
These protests have included rioters. Looters. Numerous examples of anti-police and racist/anti-White messages.
The protests have also included rallies by left wing violence-promoting groups including (but not restricted to) the new black panthers. Among their activities was putting a bounty on officer Darren Wilson\’s head, and groups loudly chanting, in Washington DC and New York City among other places, demands for dead cops.
We are not talking about isolated incidents or hit-and-run behavior: the people engaged in these activities did it right on the square. Right in and among other protesters. And I am unaware of any instances in which they were told to leave, or their demands were shouted down.
Here is my question: can you look at yourselves in the mirror and say “I covered these protests the same way as I covered the tea party movement?
And if you can\’t (which is true of the preponderance of so-called “journalists”), will you then at least think about just how biased, just how partisan, just how compromised you are? And be appropriately ashamed of what you have become/who you are propagandizing for? And consider regaining your integrity by covering both sides the same way from now on?
Don\’t bother answering. Words are cheap. Answer with actions….assuming, of course, you give a damn about journalism and personal integrity.
