Yesterday, Britain, Australia, Canada and Portugal recognized a “Palestinian state”. Most of the rest of the world is also on board with this brilliant solution to the Israel/”Palestinian” problem.
I have a few questions.
One is, what are the boundaries of this “Palestinian state”. Has anyone clarified them?
Another is, who will be ruling the “Palestinian state”?
Will it be hamas, which is committed to annihilating Israel and killing all Jews around the world?
Will it be “fatah”, headed by mahmoud abbas – who is in the 20th year of his 4 year term as the elected leader of the so-called West Bank (Judea and Samaria, actually) – and who pays the families of “martyrs” who blow themselves up at bus stops and restaurants to kill Israeli Jews?
I’ll wait for the answers to these questions. I expect it to be a very, very long wait.
But while I’m waiting, I thought you might be interested to know the rationale for Canada joining the throng and recognizing a “Palestinian” state. So here is the key part of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s formal explanation:
Hamas has terrorized the people of Israel and oppressed the people of Gaza, wreaking horrific suffering. It is imperative that Hamas release all hostages, fully disarm, and play no role in the future governance of Palestine. Hamas has stolen from the Palestinian people, cheated them of their life and liberty, and can in no way dictate their future.
The current Israeli government is working methodically to prevent the prospect of a Palestinian state from ever being established. It has pursued an unrelenting policy of settlement expansion in the West Bank, which is illegal under international law. Its sustained assault in Gaza has killed tens of thousands of civilians, displaced well over one million people, and caused a devastating and preventable famine in violation of international law. It is now the avowed policy of the current Israeli government that ‘there will be no Palestinian state’.
It is in this context that Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel. Canada does so as part of a co-ordinated international effort to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution. While Canada is under no illusions that this recognition is a panacea, this recognition is firmly aligned with the principles of self-determination and fundamental human rights reflected in the United Nations Charter, and the consistent policy of Canada for generations.
Recognising the State of Palestine, led by the Palestinian Authority, empowers those who seek peaceful coexistence and the end of Hamas. This in no way legitimises terrorism, nor is it any reward for it. Furthermore, it in no way compromises Canada’s steadfast support for the State of Israel, its people, and their security – security that can only ultimately be guaranteed through the achievement of a comprehensive two-state solution.
Ahhhh, there you have it. Yeah, hamas is terrible. But so are those damn Israelis. See, they’re both at fault.
How dare Israel reject a “Palestinian” state that, currently, is ruled by leaders who want nothing other than the obliteration of Israel and the death of Jews.
How dare Israel fight back in Gaza after hamas committed a blatant act of war, killed over 1,200 Israelis – almost all of them civilians – in the most barbaric ways imaginable, took over 250 hostages, dozens of which they still hold, and promised to do the same “again and again”.
How dare Israel kill Gazan civilians who are being used as human shields by hamas – i.e. the only way to take out hamas assets is to do so?
And that, of course, is before we get to the fact that the source of that Gazan casualty total is hamas; those nice folks who told us, among other lies, that Israel blew up a hospital – which a) is still standing, with b) its parking lot and entrance area damaged by hamas’ own misfired rocket. Great credibility there.
Let’s also not forget that the hamas casualty total does not classify any of the deaths as military-related. The premise is that their numbers are accurate, and that every casualty is a civilian, not one hamas terrorist among them. You might as well believe in ogres and unicorns.
This, in the mind (such as it is) of Prime Minister Carney, “in no way compromises Canada’s steadfast support for the State of Israel, its people, and their security.”
Does this man take stupid pills, or does it just come naturally.
This, folks, is what Israel deals with. Every minute of every hour of every week of every week of every month of every year.
I don’t know how Israel does it.
