Apropos of nothing political, but everything delicious and fun and innocent….
With a tip of my imaginary hat to my co-author, Barry Sinrod, this picture of Nathan’s, the world-famous hot dog stand (and lots of other stuff too – my wife loved the lobster rolls) was taken by photographer Al Aumuller on August 6, 1947.

The location, of course, is Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It had to be since, in 1947, that was the one and only Nathan’s location there was.
For any of you folks who were lucky enough to go to Nathan’s before it became a commercialized chain that you find in malls and airports, I hope it brings back a warm memory…and a yearning for 5 cent drinks and 10 cent frankfurters – not to mention the spectacularly great french fries (we always were told they tasted that good because Nathan’s rarely, if ever, changed the oil, they just kept adding to it).
OK, enough fond memories of our innocent past. Now back to politics, where there is no shortage of overcooked oil and nothing ever changes.
