Do you know who Ayaan Hirsi Ali is? In case you don\’t, she is a 45 year old naturalized US Citizen (as of last year), who grew up in a misogynistic Islamic society (of which there is no shortage), spent her youth as a loyal fundamentalist Islamic woman, but eventually became less insulated/more spiritually and politically aware, renounced Islam, and became a tireless advocate for Islamic women\’s rights.
There is a lot more to Ms. Ali\’s story – far too much to put in one blog. But her achievements were impressive enough for Brandeis University to offer her an honorary degree…
…until Islamic groups, most particularly CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations), kicked up a huge fuss over her being awarded such an honor. They, and their kindred pals, yelled loud and long enough for Brandeis\’ President, frederick m. lawrence, to rescind the honorary degree, claiming he was unaware of her criticisms of Islam – despite the fact that he or anyone else could easily find them with a simple google search.
The truth, of course, is that lawrence knew exactly who Ayaan Hirsi Ali was, and caved in under pressure from a Muslim brotherhood-supported group which does not want people to know what happens to women in fundamentalist Islamic societies.
What a cowardly, jelly-spined, lying jerk.
I sympathize with the parents of every decent student who attends Brandeis, for the shame President lawrence is inflicting on the “institute of higher education” their tuition money is going to.
