From Victor Nava’s article in the New York Post:
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) introduced a bipartisan resolution Thursday condemning the slogan “Globalize the Intifada” as a call to violence against Israeli and Jewish people.
The resolution, co-sponsored by Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-Ind.), was unveiled one day after Gottheimer and other Democratic lawmakers met with New York City mayoral candidate Zoharan Mamdani in Washington, DC.
Mamdani has repeatedly refused to condemn the slogan, which is frequently used by anti-Israel activists in the Big Apple.
“There should be no ambiguity — ‘Globalize the Intifada’ is hate speech, plain and simple,” Gottheimer said in a statement. “‘The Intifada’ refers to a horrific wave of terror attacks that killed thousands of Jews. Globalizing it is a direct call for violence against Jews, and it must be condemned.”
This could not be simpler. “Globalize the intifada” IS hate speech. It is a not-at-all subtle demand that Israel be obliterated and Jews be targets both in and out of Israel.
Now: who will and will not sign on.
Among Republicans? Maybe thomas massie (R-KY), who, it seems, has never found a bill that in any way supports Israel worthy of his support, and maybe one or two other Republicans as well (though I can’t think of who).
But Democrats? “The squad” and others? I see this as another story entirely.
My expectations notwithstanding, however, I’ll wait to see what the actual vote is, and I suggest you do the same. Then we’ll talk.
Oh, did I mention that I’m taking bets on which party refusals to condemn “globalize the intifada” will come from? And giving odds?
