….let me show you the latest numbers from nonpartisan Quinnipiac University, and you can finish that sentence yourself:
CONGRESS JOB APPROVAL
Fewer than 2 in 10 voters (19 percent) approve of the way the Democrats in Congress are handling their job, while 72 percent disapprove and 10 percent did not offer an opinion. This is a record low since March 2009 when the Quinnipiac University Poll first began asking this question of registered voters.
Among Democrats, 39 percent approve of the way the Democrats in Congress are handling their job, while 52 percent disapprove and 9 percent did not offer an opinion.
One-third of voters (33 percent) approve of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling their job, while 62 percent disapprove and 5 percent did not offer an opinion.
Among Republicans, 77 percent approve of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling their job, while 20 percent disapprove and 3 percent did not offer an opinion.
Do you have your own end-of-sentence?
Good. Now here’s mine: if these data are anywhere near accurate, Democrats are in the worst shape I have ever seen.
The party has ripped into two parts: so-called “moderates” and the hard-left “woke” crowd which has largely taken over.
That means if the party reverts back to more moderate positions it both creates an internal civil war and alienates its loudest voices. But if it accedes to the far left and continues in that direction, it not only is virtually certain to lose a percentage of its moderates, but almost all potential Republican crossover votes as well – which is disastrous in competitive districts.
I don’t know which way the party is headed (though, if I were betting, I would bet heavily on a continued leftward lurch). But, unless Republicans eff things up royally (always a serious possibility) and give them an opening they don’t currently have, I don’t see a good outcome in either direction.
