Today’s quote comes to us from the Trump administration’s Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt.
Before yesterday’s remarkable cabinet meeting/press conference, The New York Times’ Peter Baker – not at all surprisingly for him or for the Times – attacked President Trump by putting this up on twitter/X:
“Having served as a Moscow correspondent in the early days of Putin’s reign, this reminds me of how the Kremlin took over its own press pool and made sure that only compliant journalists were given access.”
Did you by any chance watch what went on at that cabinet meeting? Instead of just ending it as a closed meeting with cabinet members – which is how just about every other cabinet meeting usually takes place – Trump then allowed the press in, and then opened it up to questions from whichever reporter asked them. Remarkable.
But Baker, representing what remains of the New York Times (a shell of what it used to be) – compared it to a controlled, one-side-only event.
So how did Ms. Leavitt respond? She put up a (well-deserved) clown emoji, and tweeted this:
“Give me a break, Peter. Moments after you tweeted this, the President invited journalists into the Oval and took questions for nearly an hour.
‘Your hysterical reaction to our long overdue and much needed change to an outdated organization is precisely why we made it.’
“Gone are the days where left-wing stenographers posing as journalists, such as yourself, dictate who gets to ask what.”
Kaboom!
I award Karoline Leavitt Quote Of The Day honors for nailing this pompous, ridiculous “journalist” so directly, so completely…and especially for referring to him as a left wing stenographer posing as a journalist. It could not have been said better. And – a gross understatement here – Peter Baker is far from the only one.
