SNL 50TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW: REPUBLICAN THANKS TO TOM HANKS?

Most people, I think would have laughed at the idea that Saturday Night Live (SNL), with its rich history of nailing Republicans/conservatives dramatically more than Democrats/liberals, would be owed major thanks from the Republican Party for something it did on its 50th Anniversary show last night. I assure you SNL neither expected nor intended to provide such a situation.

But it managed to do so.

Here, excerpted from Jeffrey Clark’s article for Fox News, via msn.com, is how:

Actor Tom Hanks’ appearance on Saturday Night Live (SNL) for its 50th anniversary special sparked controversy online after Hanks portrayed a White Trump supporter wearing a MAGA hat and sporting a rural accent.

In the skit, Hanks’ character appears on a parody game show called Black Jeopardy. After he gets a correct answer and is congratulated, Hanks initially refuses to shake the Black host’s hand, played by Kenan Thompson.

“For its 50-year anniversary special, SNL had Tom Hanks play a racist Trump supporter afraid to shake a black man’s hand,” Outkick founder Clay Travis wrote on X Monday. “Fun fact: Trump’s 2024 election win was the LEAST racially divisive American election since 1964.”

Got that?  SNL’s effective statement about Trump supporters – who, let’s remember, provided a majority of the votes in last year’s election – is that they are a bunch of ignorant, racist rubes.

Say, isn’t that a significant part of the strategy the Democrat Party used this past year (and in other years as well)?  The one that resulted in them losing?

Republican political advisor, Link Lauren, nailed this pretty well.   Here is what he said…

“Tom Hanks just came out on SNL in a MAGA hat for a bit where he acted like he didn’t want to shake a black man’s hand.

“This show wonders why their ratings are in the gutter. Trump won the popular vote. This tired trope that MAGA is racist is disgusting. SNL is an unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites. The current Republican Party is a big tent coalition compromised of many former Democrats. Good riddance, SNL!”

…to which my reaction is “Yep, that pretty much sums it up”.

When will they learn?  Ever?  Or are the leftist ideologues who have taken over the Democrat Party so immersed in their own moral superiority that they are beyond the ability to do so?

So far, the answer is pretty clearly choice #2.  Even as they continue to lose former Democrat voters…very much including Blacks and Latinos who SNL -and, no doubt, their Democrat pals – apparently assumed would be impressed with the Hanks routine.

I wonder if they’ll eventually wake up.  Based on what have seen so far, that issue is very much up in the air.
