Today’s quote comes to us from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
Rep. Jeffries, who is one of the few younger Democrat leaders with any pull in Washington D.C. (the Pelosi/Schumer/Durbin/Hoyer crowd still holds the keys) was asked his opinion of New York Mayor Eric Adams’ apparent decision to, at least to some degree, work with President Trump.
This was his response:
“Right now, we’re going to keep focus on the need to look out for everyday New Yorkers and everyday Americans who are under assault by an extreme MAGA Republican agenda that is trying to cut taxes for billionaires, donors, and wealthy corporations and then stick New Yorkers and working-class Americans across the country with the bill.
“That’s not acceptable. We are going to fight it legislatively. We are going to fight it in the courts. We’re going to fight it in the streets.”
Legislatively and in the courts? Okay. But in the streets??? What is this man proposing?
What happens if, at some point in the near future there is a Jeffries-inspired “protest” that “started peacefully, but….” (this is the standard commentary of our media when left wing-encouraged riots occur) buildings are burned and people are hurt, even killed. Will Hakeem Jeffries apologize? Say he wishes he hadn’t said those words?
Frankly, I thought Rep. Jeffries was a better man than this; someone who would talk reason, not intentional provocation. And I can only hope this is a one-time-only anomaly….though, obviously, I don’t know that to be the case.
In any event, I award Hakeem Jeffries Quote Of The Day “honors” for voicing his encouragement for “street” actions – such as what we have seen so many times before.
If Rep. Jeffries quickly puts out an explanation/clarification/apology, I will (happily) write about it. And I hope he does. But I’m not betting on it.
