DEBUNKING THE “DICTATOR FROM DAY ONE” LIE

So many lies are being told about Donald Trump that I could do a pretty large series on them.  Maybe I will

Today, let’s talk about Trump’s promise – as incessantly repeated by Kamala Harris and the people around her – that he would be a dictator from day one.

Did he actually say that?  Let’s see.

The claim springs from an on-air interview of Trump by Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity.

Here – in context, not cherry-picked without it – is the exact quote:

HANNITY: We almost have to go to a break. I want to go back to this one issue though, because the media has been focused on this and [are] attacking you. Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?

TRUMP: Except for Day One.

HANNITY: Except for …

TRUMP: (smiling and pointing at Hannity) Look, he’s going crazy. Except for Day One.

HANNITY: Meaning?

TRUMP: I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill.

HANNITY: That’s not … that’s … that’s not … that’s not “retribution.”

TRUMP: No no. I’m gonna be … I’m gonna be, you know he keeps, we love this guy.

HANNITY: (laughing)

TRUMP: He says, “You’re not gonna be a dictator, are you?” I said no, no, no … other than Day One. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator, OK?

HANNITY: Well, that … that … that sounds to me like you’re going back to the policies … (Trump laughing) … when you were president.

TRUMP: That’s exactly …

HANNITY: All right, we’ll take a break. Just getting started. We’re in beautiful Davenport, Iowa. Donald Trump with us for the hour, as “Hannity” continues. Thank you for being with us.

Let’s start with the key question:  did Donald Trump say he would be a dictator from day one?

The answer? Obviously he did not.  He jokingly said he would be a dictator ON day one by putting two policies in place, presumably by executive order.  The end.

(Note to the Trump haters:  would you like to compare that to Joe Biden, who put out 17 executive orders on his first day?  I didn’t think so.)

So now we know that the claim – which, again, is being made damn near daily by Kamala Harris and her people – is 100% untrue.

But how did our wonderful “neutral” media cover what Trump said?

Here, from snopes.com – a very unlikely source, but full credit to them for providing this information – is a sampling:

ABC News: “Trump raises new alarms, saying he wouldn’t be a ‘dictator’ except on ‘Day One'”

The Associated Press: “Trump’s vow to only be a dictator on ‘day one’ follows growing worry over his authoritarian rhetoric”

The Atlantic: “Trump Says He’ll Be a Dictator on ‘Day One.'”

The Boston Globe: “Trump says he’ll be a dictator on ‘day one.’ Legal experts are concerned.”

Business Insider: “Trump says he’ll only be a dictator ‘on day 1′”

CBS News: “Trump says he would be a dictator only on ‘Day One’ if he wins a second term”

The Guardian: “Trump says he will be a dictator only on ‘day one’ if elected president”

MSNBC: “Trump says he would be a dictator only on ‘day one’ of second term”

The New York Times: “Trump Says He Wouldn’t Be a Dictator, ‘Except for Day 1′”

Politico: “Trump: I won’t be a dictator ‘except for day one'”

Vanity Fair: “Donald Trump: Don’t Worry, I’ll Only Be a Dictator for One Day”

The Washington Post: “Trump says he wouldn’t be a dictator ‘except for Day One'”

The context of Trump’s remarks regarding the border and oil drilling was absent from these headlines and was mentioned in only some of the articles’ subheadings. The body of each of the stories included the context of Trump’s remarks.

Anybody still wondering why I have so little trust of so many mainstream media venues?

This is the real story regarding Donald Trump’s “dictator/day one” comment.

Bottom line?  A lie – and one media absolutely, unequivocally know is a lie.

Now:  when do they nail Kamala Harris for telling it over and over and over again?

Probably, about two weeks after rashida tlaib resigns from congress to join the IDF.

More lie exposures to follow.
