Hodeidah is – maybe the more accurate word would be was – a major port in Yemen.
It is – again, maybe I should say was – where the “houthis” – a hate-filled terrorist group dedicated to destroying Israel and killing Jews – has operated freely for almost a year, shooting missiles at and damaging not just Israeli ships but other countries’ ships as well.
And as an extra added attraction – presumably since no one was doing anything substantial to stop them (the US and UK “proportional” responses were laughably meaningless to the houthis) – they decided to fire missiles/drones at Israel.
Until last week, Israel’s “Iron Dome” defense system took just about all of them down. But then the houthis had a “success”: a drone attack that got through Israel’s defenses, hitting Tel Aviv, killing at least one person and injuring about a dozen others.
That caused – required – Israel to do something about it. Not a BS “proportional” response, but something for real.
Here is a picture of the port of Hodeidah now:
And Israel hit several other relevant targets as well – targets that were long overdue for the reckoning they got. You can read all about it – along with Yemen’s outrage that Israel actually DID something about these attacks – in Bel Trew and Katie Hawkinson’s article for London’s Independent.
Will this cause the houthis, or any other hate-Israel group to reconsider their genocidal efforts? Nope. But it certainly is going deter them for a while…which is about the best Israel can hope for.
Now, about hezbollah in northern Lebanon…
