HILLARY CLINTON: REPUBLICAN DREAM CANDIDATE?

Ken Berwitz

Months ago that title would have looked ridiculous.

But now?

Excerpted from Dana Blanton\’s article at foxnews.com:

As Democrats prepare fortheir first debate Tuesday evening, the latest Fox News national poll findslittle movement in the primary. Clinton remains the front-runner amongDemocratic primary voters (45 percent), with Bernie Sanders (25 percent) andBiden (19 percent) behind her by about 20 percentage points. That\’s almostidentical to where things stood three weeks ago.

In hypothetical 2016matchups with top-tier Republicans, Clinton trails all the Republicans tested. She trails Ben Carson by 11 points and Donald Trump by 5 points. Jeb Bush has a4-point edge over Clinton, while Carly Fiorina is up by 3 points.

Biden faresbetter. He leads Trump by 13 points and tops Bush by 5 points. Biden ispreferred over both Fiorina and Carson by 4 points. And Biden narrowly bestsMarco Rubio by 1 point.

Though Clinton stilldominates the Democratic primary race, the new poll confirms a significantdecline in her support since summer. In June, her lead over Sanders was doublewhat it is today (61 percent Clinton vs. 15 percent Sanders). And instead of trailingTrump by 5 points, she topped him by 17 points. Clinton was also up by 6 pointsover Fiorina then, while she\’s down by 3 now.

Add another poll to the pile, which shows Hillary Clinton tanking, while Sanders stays strong and Biden – not even a candidate – looms like cumulonimbus clouds on a hot summer afternoon.

How could it be that Clinton – aka Ms. Inevitability – could drop this far this fast?  We\’ve gone over the reasons here many times – in short form, scandal after scandal, coupled with a public which doesn\’t believe a word that comes from her mouth.

For Republicans, does this make her a dream candidate?

Well, let\’s see how Ms. Clinton makes out tonight, and reassess tomorrow.  Fair enough?
