My wife, Arleen, has been a registered Democrat her entire adult life…until a few months ago when she reregistered as unaffiliated. As a Democrat, she is literally inundated with political messages to our email account. Several a day, every day right now, and 6 to 10 a day during the 2022 election cycle. Despite her dropping back to independent status, she has continued to get these emails.
That being the case, I thought you might want to see the, er, “quality” of what she is being sent. This one came yesterday.

BREAKING via The Hill: “Biden’s approval rating increased,” but we still haven’t heard from you!
This is great news, Arleen: President Biden’s approval rating continues to increase as polls show him statistically tied with Donald Trump!
President Biden is moving the country in the right direction by strengthening our economy, creating over 14 MILLION jobs, and reducing inflation — and Americans are taking notice.
But to defend our incredible progress under the Biden-Harris administration, we need to confirm that Democrats are supporting President Biden and REJECTING a Trump comeback! So please, let us know your response before the midnight deadline:

Did you read the verbiage…aka verbal vomit…she (and, presumably, everyone else on that list) was subjected to?
It’s a little like those kid’s puzzles where they show a picture and ask how many things you can find wrong with it. So let’s assume it is one of those puzzles, and see how we do.
For openers, let’s check Biden’s approval ratings.
According to realclearpolitics.com, over the last 7 polls (since December 26), his average has been 39.4% positive and 56.3% negative; an average of -16.9%. That is godawful. However, since the last two (both of them from polling organizations which usually give him better results than the others) show him at -8% and -11%.
So if you can contort reality to believe negative results that are less negative than other results is an “increase”, that would technically count. Can you?
But that’s not all. The email also calls this the continuation of a trend (“President Biden’s approval rating continues to increase”). This is absolute BS. If you use the link I’ve provided above, you will see that his trend has been downward, not upward. And not just for the past couple of weeks, but for the past half year.
As for the “statistical tie” with Trump? That is true per se, but it is no big deal. It has been just as true for months. What Democrats are not telling recipients of this email is that Trump is winning in every swing state. Every one. So a “statistical tie” in a national poll, is utterly meaningless.
Now, how about the economy? It is really “strengthened”? Compare it to where we were the day Joe Biden became President: an inflation rate of 1.4% and mortgage rates under 3% . Both have more than doubled under Biden. Inflation, in particular, hit 9.1% in June of 2022, before “dropping” to the current 3.4%, which is still more than double where Trump left it.
As for the “14 MILLION jobs”, the suggestion being that Biden somehow created them? That is an out and out lie. 10 million of those jobs were comebacks to the job level we had before the pandemic.
From February to April of 2020, when the country virtually shut down, we went from almost 153 million non-farm jobs down to 130 million. In Trump’s last nine months as President (April, 2020 – January, 2021), jobs rose back to 143 million….but no one was claiming he created 13 million new jobs. It was understood the economy was just regaining what it had lost. So, for exactly the same reason, our current 157 million job total is not a 14 million job gain, it is a 4 million job gain.
This, the Democrat email tells us, is “incredible progress under the Biden-Harris administration”. And we’re supposed to believe it.
This, folks, is the BS Arleen (and everyone else on that list) receives every day. I wonder how many of them actually believe it. Remember, just about everyone on the list is a Democrat, which probably means they want to believe Democrat Joe Biden is doing a bang-up job as President. I doubt more than a tiny number will ever check at all, let alone the way I did. So they’re ripe candidates for being turned into first-class suckers.
I’ll end with H. L. Mencken’s definition of democracy, which, I think, is highly apropos here:
“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard”
Sadly, I have a strong expectation that Democrats who are reading these kinds of emails are precisely who Mencken had in mind.
