Joe Biden’s prospects for re-election have gone from distant to disastrous.

President Biden’s job approval rating has plunged to a measly 33%, according to a Pew Research Center poll released Thursday
The dismal rating is the lowest that Pew Research has measured since Biden, 81, took office and represents a 2 point drop since the organization’s last approval survey in June.
Only about half of black Americans, 52%, say they approve of Biden’s job in the oval office.
The president did even worse with Hispanics and Asians, with 33% and 37%, respectively, saying they approve of the way he’s handled the presidency.
I’ve been following politics for a long time. And, other than Nixon in the throes of Watergate, I don’t recall an incumbent President doing this badly.
But, you might say, national polling data don’t really tell the story. What about the so-called “battleground states” – the ones that swing one way or the other and are most likely to determine election results?
Well, here, via Nancy Cook’s article at bloomberg.com, is your answer:
Joe Biden’s growing political troubles are coming from within his own party as he trails Donald Trump in the battleground states that will decide the 2024 election.
That’s the conclusion from the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult Poll of voters in seven swing states. Read the full report here.
This is the third consecutive month Bloomberg News has conducted the swing state poll, and the narrative hasn’t shifted for the president. In fact, it’s gotten worse and the new data only highlights Democratic voters’ deepening dissatisfaction with the White House.
Approval ratings through a trap door – including ratings among minority voters Democrats must have to win elections – and trailing in the swing states, with the numbers heading even further downward. It doesn’t get more grim than that.
So what will Democrats do?
Well, here’s what one Democrat is doing.

Kamala Harris is suspected to be pushing President Biden off the 2024 ticket so she can swoop in after the Vice President hired a notorious Biden critic as a senior aide.
Vice President Harris hired Brian Fallon as her Campaign Communications Director for the upcoming election.
Fallon served as national press secretary to Hillary Clinton during her run for President and worked under Senator Chuck Schumer until 2013.
The veteran aide has not held back in expressing ageist views and explicitly criticizing Biden – who at 81 is the oldest president in history.
The Harvard-graduate mocked Biden for his cognitive state during a 2019 Democratic primary debate – saying ‘Biden trying to complete an answer is a tender moment’ in a post on X.
In another post, Fallon expressed that he thought Biden was given a ‘pass’ for an incoherent answer the then-Presidential candidate gave on the matter of slavery during a 2019 debate.
‘A lot of people seem to be giving Biden a pass for that answer on slavery,’ he posted.
Fallon’s Biden-bashing went beyond his campaign leading up to the 2020 election – in 2021 he openly criticized the President for neglecting the interests of black people.
‘He’s test-driving Ford F-150s. He’s not going to Selma to talk about voting rights,’ he told the Washington Post.
So you’re an 81 year old President of the United States, you intend to run for re-election…and your running mate hires on a communications guy who has spent years directly attacking you on the two areas where you’re most vulnerable: age and cognitive ability?
What would that tell you? What would that tell anyone?
How’d you like to be a fly on the wall the next time these two have a private conversation?
And then there’s the rest of us. Personally, I’m trying to envision the prospect of Joe Biden, willingly or unwillingly, stepping down as the Democrat candidate…to be replaced by a cackling flyweight who has trouble putting two coherent sentences together without the cognitive impairment. Or maybe I’m trying not to envision it, out of fear that it might actually happen.
But does the replacement have to be Kamala Harris? There’s always Gavin Newsom in the wings, isn’t there?
Now there’s a great array of choices: Biden, Harris… and Newsom, who was instrumental in destroying San Francisco when he was its Mayor and now is destroying the entire state of California as its Governor.
Yesterday, the Babylon Bee – a satirical “news” site – had an article telling us that Clarence – the angel second class from “It’s A Wonderful Life” – had been sent back to earth; his mission was to take Gavin Newsom to Florida, so he could see how California would have turned out if he’d never been born.
I laughed out loud when I read that. Then I thought about the “job” Newsom has done on California, coupled with the possibility that he really, truly could become Biden’s replacement on the 2024 ticket. And suddenly I wasn’t laughing anymore.
