It’s another George Floyd summer…except, this time, it’s happening in France.
From the Le Parisien website, we have this:
Arrests, burnt cars, damaged buildings… The riots in numbers, night by night
What has happened in detail since Nahel’s death on June 27 in Nanterre? After six nights of riots, the Ministry of the Interior has just published a quantified report of all the degradations and arrests . And the numbers are scary. A total of 5,662 vehicle fires were recorded, and more than 1,000 buildings were damaged.
Regarding the arrests, the police have already carried out, in six nights, 3,354 arrests throughout the territory, including 1,282 in the jurisdiction of the Paris police headquarters. “There are 60%, out of these 3,200 individuals arrested, who have no criminal record, who are not known to the police”, underlined Gérald Darmanin during a trip to Reims, also indicating that the the average age of those arrested was 17. At the same time, 254 attacks on law enforcement premises were recorded, and 722 personnel were injured.
In detail, the damage following the riots was especially very significant during the night of Thursday 29 to Friday 30, and that of Friday June 30 to Saturday July 1. With 875 and 1,311 arrests, 1,919 and 1,585 burned vehicles, 90 and 78 attacks on police premises, these are the two most eventful nights of this episode.
Amazing, isn’t it, how one incident can be politically exploited to cause this much damage – and, therefore, this much of a warning to the authorities and to normal, everyday citizens that the hardline looney-tunes are in control.
We saw it here with George Floyd, and we’re seeing it there with Nahem.
I’d say it’s nice to see that we’re not the only ones…but more correctly, it’s sad to see that it’s happening in either place.
What next? I shudder to think…
