How do you like your “human rights” hypocrisy? Nice and clear, so there\’s no mistake about it?
If so, good. Because I\’ve got a nice, clear, no mistake about it example from Norway – a country which makes no secret of its hatred for Israel and Israelis (do you read that as “the Jewish state and Jews”? Maybe you\’ve got a point).
Excerpted from John Anderson\’s article in the New York Times:
In an apologetic email received on Aug. 10, a filmmaker in Tel Aviv, Roy Zafrani, learned that his short documentary, ““The Other Dreamers,” had been rejected by the (Norwegian) Human Rights Human Wrongs festival, which focuses on political documentaries.
“We support the academic and cultural boycott of Israel,” wrote Ketil Magnussen, founder of the festival\’s parent organization, the Oslo Documentary Cinema. He added that unless Mr. Zafrani\’s films were about the “illegal occupation,” the blockade of Gaza, or discrimination against Palestinians, they would not be shown.
“I\’m sorry,” he wrote. “Please let me know if you have documentary films that are dealing directly with the occupation.”
Translation: Your documentary is subject to a boycott of anything and everything Israeli….unless, of course, you make a documentary which agrees with our view of Israel, in which case the boycott is off.
That, folks, is in the name of “human rights”.
If I were Roy Zafrani I\’d write back and tell these hypocritical jerks where they could stuff their “human rights, human wrongs” festival.
Then I\’d ask them if they were boycotting material from the so-called Palestinian territories, which are governed under a charter that specifically, in so many words, calls for the annihilation of Israel, regardless of how it treats Palestinian Arabs, and the death of all Jews, regardless of their opinion of Palestinian Arabs and regardless of whether or not they live in Israel.
The answer, by the way, would be a resounding “no”.
Therefore, this has nothing to do with human rights. This has everything to do with Israel – or, more generally and more probably, Jew – hatred.
