Earlier this morning, the lead story at CBS News\’ web site was titled “Some arrests during mostly peaceful Ferguson protests”.
In actuality, there were 22 arrests, various acts of violence, there has already been gunfire – the night before last – in which a “protester” allegedly fired on police, and a Saint Louis Post-Dispatch reporter, Pete Hampel, was beaten and robbed. That, of course, is before we get to the herculean efforts of these “peaceful protesters” to force a confrontation/showdown, by chanting such pleasantries as “fuck the police” – which I heard on TV during a live report.
Now the lead story at CBS News\’ web site is “Militia-style group causes concern in Ferguson”.
In actuality, this reference is to the fact that a small group of “Oath Keepers” showed up in Ferguson. FYI, this group self-describes as “a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to \’defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
So let\’s review: 22 arrests, gunfire aimed at police, ongoing attempts to force a confrontation and assault on a member of the media….is “mostly peaceful”.
But the presence of a few Oath Keepers, who have done nothing but show up, “causes concern” – a terminology not used to characterize any of the events which preceded their showing up – events which presumably were why they showed up. Those goings-on were “mostly peaceful”, you see.
I talk a lot about what is wrong with today\’s media in here. This is why.
One other thing: before anyone decides that what I just wrote is an endorsement of the “Oath Keepers” as a group or of their presence in Ferguson, be assured that it is not. Not even one tenth of one percent. My point begins and ends at the difference in media coverage between them and the “peaceful” protesters.
