You\’re Donald Trump.
You have had a great ride. You are ahead in the polls – because you own a specific segment (for lack of a better term I\’ll call it the BLS: the Barroom Loudmouth Segment) and the other 16 candidates are splitting everything else.
But you have just made an ass of yourself in a debate that received record-breaking viewership…and compounded the damage by making a disgusting comment about the moderator.
People who either supported you or at least stood on the sidelines are now running the other way.
You have nowhere to go but down. And that is likely to happen quickly.
What should you do?
If you want the maximum publicity value, while you\’re still in the best position to spin it positively, you get out now. Right now.
You leave the Republican race, call it a mess, point out that you are doing so while still at the very top of the heap, and threaten or promise to run third-party….which will insure more publicity, thus more ego-massage for you.
Donald Trump may 0be bizarre, ridiculous and a lot of other things, but he is not stupid. I have to believe he sees this. And I have to believe he knows he cannot win the nomination.
So what will he do?
Will he hang around long enough so that when he goes bye-bye the media can say it was because his artificial little bubble burst?
Or will he do it quickly, when there are still people who will lament his departure, and say he did so even though it disappoints the multitudes who love him?
Keep watching.
