CITIZENS FOR A NUCLEAR FREE IRAN

Interesting call I just got.

The phone rings, I answer, and:

-A male voice asks me if my wife is there (somewhat mispronounced, but clearly my wife).

-I ask who is calling.

-I am told it is Citizens For A Nuclear Free Iran, and they have a few questions for her.

-I tell them my wife is not here, but I can answer their questions.

-I\’m told to have a good day, then click, the call is over.

Obviously, this was a poll.  And, though abrupt, the interviewer did the right thing by not accepting anyone\’s opinion but the person who he was supposed to speak with.

But, since I had not heard of this group, I decided to look it up and find out what it is and where it stands.

It turns out that Citizens For A Nuclear Free Iran (CNFI) is a group which strongly opposes the “deal” cooked up by President Obama and Secretary Kerry.

It also turns out that its entire advisory board is comprised entirely of Democrats, all of whom have held elective office:

-Four former U.S. Senators:  Evan Bayh, Mark Begich, Mary Landrieu and Joseph Lieberman

-Three former House members:  Gary Ackerman, Shelley Berkley and Peter Deutsch

As I read those names, it occurred to me that, given this is an organization put together and run entirely by Democrats, that it should have gotten a great deal of media publicity.

Look at it this way:  Suppose an organization comprised entirely of former Republican Senators and House members had organized a group opposing, say, the deal George Bush made to extricate troops from Iran*.  Do you doubt that kind of a mutiny would have gone unreported?  Now, is this the first you\’ve heard of CNFI?  What does that tell you?

As any reader of this blog would expect, even though I did not get a chance to speak out in their survey (which the fact that I am a political blogger and a marketing research executive would probably have prevented me from doing anyway), I wish Citizens For A Nuclear Free Iran the best of luck in its efforts.

Especially Gary Ackerman.  Not because I was a big fan of his politics, but because, though he is a little older than me, we both grew up in the same project, just a stone\’s throw from each other – Pomonok in Queens.  We graduated the same school – Queens College.  And because we have a mutual close friend, whose name I won\’t mention here, but who grew up in Electchester, is a chemist, and once lived in Rochester (If Gary reads this blog, that description will surely tell him who I\’m talking about).

I wonder if Barack Obama thinks Gary, and the other 6 members of CNFI, are aligned with the lunatics who chant “Death to America!”?  Maybe one of them can ask him….

*Did you really think that was Barack Obama\’s doing?  Did you really believe him when he took credit for it as if he, rather than Bush, negotiated the withdrawal…and then screwed it up by not leaving a sufficient residual force?
