THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote comes to us from Sarah Palin, a former Republican Vice Presidential candidate who now is out of politics and is something of a media personality.

Here is what Ms. Palin has to say about why Donald Trump\’s poll numbers have jumped to their current heights:

“Everywhere I\’ve gone this summer, including motorsport events in Detroit full of fed up Joe Six-Pack Americans, the folks I meet commiserate about wussified slates of politicians, but then unsolicited, they whisper their appreciation for Trump because he has the guts to say it like it is.  Trump\’s unconventional candidacy is a shot in the arm for ordinary Americans fed up with the predictable poll tested blather of squishy milquetoast career politicians who campaign one way and govern another. But it\’s not just how Trump says it, it\’s what he’s saying.”

I don\’t know that Ms. Palin is 100% correct here, but she definitely leans heavily toward it.

The appeal of Donald Trump is not his wealth or his arrogance or his insatiable desire for the spotlight.  Those negatives would be disastrous for him if that were all that he had to offer.

Donald Trump\’s appeal is that he says, out loud, what a lot of people are thinking – a helluva lot more people, I suspect, than our mainstream media realize.

They hear him saying things in the same words they use in their living rooms or across the kitchen table.  Not in the measured, focus-group-tested, equivocal, I-can-claim-I-didn\’t-mean-it-that-way, BS words that almost every politician uses, but real statements, said in a real way, that resonate with them.

Does Trump go way overboard a lot of the time.  Yes he does.

Can he do the things he says he will do one-two-three, the way he makes it seem?  No he cannot.

Is Donald Trump presidential material – a hard-assed corporate executive who has not the slightest concept of how to work with a co-equal branch of government?  No he is not.

But does he say things that a) people want to hear which b) for the most part sound like common sense to them, and b) in any event, do not sound like he checked with Ollie the Operative and Carol the Consultant before verbalizing juu-u-u-uust the right way?  Hell, yes.

I award Sarah Palin Quote Of The Day honors for understanding this…in a way that most media are too elitist, too, out of touch, too ivory-towered to even begin to comprehend.
