According to the New York Daily News, MSNBC News Chief Andrew Lack has indicated that a name change is being considered for the cable network.
I can think of some alternatives…but I\’m betting Mr. Lack will not be happy with any of them.
Lack also is promising major changes in the program lineup – in that connection, Joe Concha of mediaite.com reports that “The Cycle was cancelled today, and that “Now” with Alex Wagner and “The Ed Show” with Ed Schultz are also goners. He tells us that Chuck Todd will take Schultz\’s spot and former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams might – might – do two hours a day, replacing “The Cycle” and “Now” in the 3PM – 5PM slots.
Concha also indicates that 6PM (al sharpton) and 8PM (Chris Hayes) are on the chopping block.
If Andrew Lack is serious this much of an overhaul of MSNBC\’s lineup – which, obviously, is major and then some – and it is done well, that might help to start turning things around.
But it is going to be hard.
The problem is that MSNBC\’s viewership, what there is of it, is based on a steady diet of hard-left perspective. If the hard-left ratatat remains, how does viewership expand? But, if MSNBC suddenly becomes more diverse in its outlook, it will enrage current vewers and quite possibly lose a significant percentage of them.
This is not going to be easy. But it will be interesting to watch.
Let\’s.
