Did you hear about the “Gaza Flotilla” – a convoy of ships, leaving from Sweden, which intended to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza?
It\’s a good bet you might have, given the amount of international media attention it got.
But I bet you didn\’t hear out it turned out. So let me give you a heads-up.
Four ships left port, supposedly loaded with humanitarian aid for Gazans. Three of them turned around and came back before entering the blockade zone, without encountering Israeli ships. It is not clear why.
One ship did get within the blockade zone and was interdicted. The entire battle for that ship consisted of a single member of its crew being tasered. Speaking for myself, I\’d call that pretty peaceful
And – this is the most amazing part – when Israelis boarded the ship, here is the sum total of “humanitarian aid” they found:
What you are looking at is one solar panel, and one “nebulizer” – i.e. an inhaler used to inhale medicines.
That, folks is it. The end. Nothing else.
And if you suspect that there must have been much, much more, which those dastardly Israelis are hiding….forget it. The picture you are looking at was sent not by Israel, but by Ann Ighe, a member of the Gaza flotilla organization.
If you still have any doubts, feel free to read all about it in William Booth\’s article for the Washington Post.
At this point you might be asking yourself why, if all that was coming was one ship with a solar panel and a nebulizer, this so-called “flotilla” was created at all.
If so, I refer you to the beginning of this blog, where I speculated that it was a good bet you have heard about such a flotilla.
That\’s right. Publicity. It won\’t matter if the “flotilla” is a complete sham, if, publicity-wise, the Israel haters get their fraudulent “humanitarian aid” story in the international media.
That\’s something worth remembering the next time you read a similar story about the naval blockade.
Oh, one other thing: while the sea is blockaded by Israel, a) by land, hundreds of trucks of goods come into Gaza every day through Israel, and b) in any event Egypt has a border with Gaza as well and can send whatever it cares to into Gaza through its Rafah crossing…or anywhere else along the Egypt/Gaza border.
Amazing how many people have been conned into believing Israel is in complete control of Gaza\’s borders. But since the con job has worked so well, let end by showing you a map of Gaza so you can see the Egypt border for yourself:
