Can you believe a famous, powerful man said something like this?
“We should not be encouraging illegal immigration. What we should be doing is setting up a smart, legal immigration system that doesn\’t separate families, but does focus on making sure that people who are dangerous, people who are gang-bangers or criminals – that we\’re deporting them as quickly as possible.”
Can you believe that Donald Trump? Didn\’t he get in enough trouble already, by insulting Mexicans? Can\’t he keep his big mouth shu……
…oh, wait.
That quote is not from Donald Trump. That quote is from President Barack Obama. And Trump – understandably – is questioning why it is OK for Mr. Obama to say what he did but not Trump, whose exact words, in case you forget, were:
“When Mexico sends its people, they\’re not sending their best. They\’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they\’re bringing those problems with us. They\’re bringing drugs. They\’re bringing crime. They\’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
As you can see, Trump, in an extremely blunt and crude way, said that while some Mexican illegals are good people, others are criminals.
Isn\’t that what Mr. Obama, albeit in a more polished way, said? Didn\’t he say that some of the people coming in are “gangbangers or criminals” (interesting use of the word “or” – as if a gangbanger is likely to be law-abiding).
But, in a display that should send a shudder through anyone who cares about people\’s right to free speech – not to mention selective outrage – Trump is being skewered left and right for what he said, with business after business dumping him, while President Obama is getting a complete free pass from the same people.
Tell me: if Mr. Obama were a Republican, and Mr. Trump a left wing Democrat, do think it would have played out that way?
