The Turkish people voted this weekend.
The result was that Recep Tayyip Erdogan\’s party – which he has increasingly turned pro-shari\’a law and anti-Israel – won…but did not get a majority of the vote, which weakens Erdogan substantially.
I have to admit I do not know what this is going to mean in the short or not-so-short term…and am waiting for more fallout on the election to comment further. But I will say that the weaker Erdogan is, the better I like it.
One other thing: On a much lighter note, I can\’t let CNN\’s headline on the Turkish vote go unnoticed:
Turkey\’s ruling party wins most seats but falls short of majority
Can someone explain how you can win most of the seats but fall short of a majority?
Actually, CNN meant to say that Turkey\’s ruling party won most of the seats – as in more than any of the other parties. Would it have hurt someone\’s typing fingers to add that three-letter word?
