Today\’s quote comes to us from two-time Ohio Governor and possible presidential candidate, John Kasich.
Governor Kasich is the latest Republican to be asked whether he would attend a gay wedding. He answered that he would, and put it this way:
“Just because you\’re opposed to something doesn\’t mean you don\’t care about your friends, other human beings. My friend knows how I feel about the issue, but I\’m not here to have a war with him. I care about my friend, so it\’s pretty simple for me. I don\’t need to be making big statements about any of this.”
John Kasich gets today\’s Quote Of The Day honors, for the quality of his answer to this question. He may be opposed to gay marriage but accepts and respects the fact that decent, good people feel differently. He does not shoo people out of his life because they support gay marriage and would not refuse to attend a gay wedding.
Incidentally, have you noticed how quickly gay marriage has become an acid test for media to see if they can nail individual Republicans?
Tell me: have media gone running to ask Hillary Clinton – or possible candidates Martin O\’Malley and Jim Webb – maybe Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders as well (i.e. every Democrat talking about or being talked about a presidential run) how they feel about aborting a 7 pound baby – which, it is virtually certain, would be fully viable outside the womb?
The chairperson of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, was challenged on that question by Rand Paul and would not say she opposes such an abortion (or, more exactly, such a murder. If the child is alive and fully viable, that\’s what it is).
But DWS is not running for President.
When are the questions about the DNC chairperson\’s stand on this issue going to be asked of those who either are or might be the party\’s presidential candidate? Is whether or not it is ok to kill a live baby for the “crime” of being on this side of a woman\’s belly instead of that side less important than gay marriage?
And why do mainstream media run – not walk, but run – to challenge Republicans this way but not Demo….never mind, we both know the answer.
