DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: PROTECTED SPECIES

Days ago, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who also is chairperson of the Democratic National Committee, was asked if it was ok to abort a 7 pound (i.e. fully viable) baby (not lump of fetal tissue, but live baby) in the womb.

She could not say there was anything wrong with it, she just dribbled out a boilerplate line about a woman\’s right to choose and that decisions about abortion are between women and their doctors.  Not one word about the fact that the baby would almost certainly be alive and viable, or any judgment on whether killing a live, viable baby is acceptable.

Now:  How many media reports have you seen/heard about this?  Probably not many, since I googled “Debbie Wasserman Schultz 7 pound baby”, looked at the first page, then the second page, and not one of the major news organs came up.  Not CBS, or NBC, or ABC, or the New York Times, or the Washington Post, or the LA Times, or….well, you get the picture.

I did, however, find an article at MSNBC – which gave a reasonably two-sided account of what transpired between Wasserman Schultz and Rand Paul…but, predictably, ended on a sympathetic note toward Wasserman Schultz.

A question for you:  Suppose Reince Priebus, the head of the Republican National Committee refused to answer whether he supported a woman\’s right to abort under any circumstances, even if the pregnancy put her life in danger, and his answer was a recital about how precious all lives are – no actual response to the question.  Do you think these same media would look the other way then?

Me neither.
