Apropos of nothing political….
One of my facebook friends put up a web site called tiphero.com which, among other things, provides ideas on how to get various “spring cleaning” things done in the house without spending a lot of money on commercial products (which often don\’t work anyway).
So I clicked on the specific page that had this information to see what I could see.
One tip was for cleaning/restoring grout. I decided to give it a try. In case you\’d like to try it as well, here is the tip:
-Take 3 parts baking soda to one part bleach and make a paste out of it.
-Use a brush to scrub the paste onto, and into, the grout;
-Wait 5 – 10 minutes;
-Then rescrub the paste onto/into the grout (no new paste, you are, in effect, using the same paste twice);
-Wait another 5 – 10 minutes,
-Then rinse.
The claim was that you would be surely be “stunned” by how your grout looks.
Well, I did it on a couple of rows in our master bathroom.
To my initial disappointment, it didn\’t look any different. But, then again, the instruction said to wait until the grout was dry, and grout does, in fact, look darker when it is wet. So I waited about an hour just to be sure.
Just a few minutes ago, I walked into our bathroom and saw the grout when it was dry.
My reaction? I spontaneously said “Holy effin\’ excrement” (ok, ok, I might have said it a little differently).
When dry, that grout looked like the day it was put down. Something like 20 years of ground-in crap that no amount of mop washing or brush scrubbing with commercial products ever did a thing about was gone.
Needless to say I will be trying some of the other tips offered on this web site – and urge you to click on the link I\’ve provided and check them out. See if you\’re as thrilled (and/or profane) as I am.
Ok, back to politics, where I would love to use baking soda and bleach on most of the current participants…but doubt that even that would clean them up.
