I just read Curtis Houck\’s blog at newsbusters.org, which is titled “Networks Paint Illegal Immigrants as Victims After Judge Halts Obama\’s Executive Amnesty”.

In it, Mr. Houck puts up verbatim commentary from the major networks, all of which paint illegals as victims because a Texas judge has put President Obama\’s executive order, giving them virtual amnesty, on hold until it is ruled on in future litigation or congress enacts relevant legislation.

Note to Curtis Houck: they are partly right.

The millions of illegal immigrants from Mexico to the United States 4-5 million of whom would be affected by President Obama\’s executive order (millions of others would not), are, in fact, victims.

But they are not being victimized by the United States.  They are being victimized by their home country, Mexico.

Why do Mexicans come here by the millions?  Why are there currently something like 12 million Mexican nationals in total who have left their native country for the United States?

Did they come here because it is a good life to live in the shadows, worried every day about deportation, to be paid lower-than-low wages by unscrupulous employers who know they can\’t do squat about it, to know that if they need a day off,  for sickness or personal reasons, they risk being told never to come back again, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.?

No, they did not come here because it is a good life.

They came here because it is a better life than they can have in Mexico, as full citizens with full “rights” (such as they are).

They came here because Mexico – a well-to-do country with enormous natural resources and booming industrial, agricultural and hospitality industries – treats them like such garbage that they cannot live successfully in their own country.

It is tragic and shameful that Mexico treats its own people this disgracefully…

…and outrageous that our media, instead of blaming Mexico for not giving millions and millions of its own people a chance at decent lives, blames the USA instead because we don\’t do it for them instead.

So, yes, Mexicans are victims.

But when will our media – and the so-called advocates for illegal immigrants – a) talk honestly about who is victimizing them and b) demand that the true victimizers do something about it?

One other important point:  just to be clear on this, my problem is with the Mexican government.   It is not with Mexican people.  I know too many wonderful people of Mexican citizenship – and ancestry – to think otherwise.
