The Today Show just opened with a story about the French magazine, Charlie Hebdo, putting out its latest issue with a cover that defiantly, offensively, satirizes, in Matt Lauer\’s words – “The Prophet Muhammad” – a description he has used second-naturedly for some time now.
Is Matt Lauer a Muslim? I guess he must be, because why else would he keep telling us, definitively, that Muhammad is “the prophet”.
Note to Mr. Lauer: If you want to call Muhammad the Islamic prophet, you\’ll get no argument from me. Because that\’s what he is.
But since I am not Islamic – nor is the preponderance of your audience – and he isn\’t a prophet to me or them, I suggest you stop putting that characterization out as if it were settled fact. It isn\’t.
If you insist on saying “the prophet Muhammad” anyway, then I insist that, every time you talk about Jesus, you introduce him as “our lord and savior”. What\’s good for one religion is good for the other, right?
Uh….right, Matt?
