EUROPEAN ANTI-SEMITISM: BACK TO THE FUTURE

Welcome to the 30\’s.

From Martin Robinson\’s and James White\’s article at London\’s Daily Mail:

Jewsare fleeing terror-hit Paris because of growing anti-Semitism inFrance, one of Britain\’s most influential Jewish journalists saidtoday.

StephenPollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, spoke out after an Islamicterrorist took six people hostage and held them captive in a Koshersupermarket in the French capital.

Thisafternoon police ordered all shops in a famous Jewish neighborhood incentral Paris to close.

Themayor\’s office in Paris announced the closure of shops along theRosiers street in Paris\’ Marais neighborhood, in the heart of thetourist district and less than a mile away from the offices ofsatirical magazine Charlie Hebdo where 12 people were killed onWednesday.

Hoursbefore the Jewish Sabbath, the street is usually crowded with FrenchJews and tourists alike.

MrPollard said today\’s terror attack in Paris, linked to the massacreat the office of Charlie Hebdo, will force more French Jews to fleethe country.

Manyare moving to Britain or to Israel, according to a report publishedin the newspaper last year.

Hesaid the fact that a terrorist had chosen to target a Jewish storewas no \’fluke\’.

Ina series of tweets he said: \’Every single French Jew I know haseither left or is actively working out how to leave\’.

\’So,it\’s a fluke that the latest target is a kosher grocer, is it?

\’What\’sgoing on in France – outrages that have been getting worse for years – put our anti-Semitism problems in perspective\’.

Jews are fleeing France.  Do you blame them?

But, sadly, if this article is correct, many of them are “fleeing” to the UK – large parts of which, in terms of anti-Semitism, are Paris without the Eiffel Tower and haute cuisine.

Yesterday I wrote about the importance of Israel as “a haven, a safety valve, a last bastion, for Jews fleeing anti-Semitism.”  Consider that blog rewritten here.
