GRIMM REALITY

Well, the election is over and Republican incumbent house member michael grimm has won a third term in congress.

Except…

….maybe he\’ll be representing his cell block in prison instead.

Excerpted from Dierdre Walsh\’s article at cnn.com:

Afterpleading guilty to a judge Tuesday on a felony tax evasion charge,New York Rep. Michael Grimm pledged to reporters he would also stayin Congress.

Grimmpled guilty in court to one count of tax evasion and was set tosubmit to a “statement of facts” that admits to all theconduct alleged in the 20-count federal indictment.

Heapologized for his actions and took responsibility, but said theunpaid taxes from a New York restaurant he once owned were all a bigmistake.

“Aslong as I\’m able to serve I\’m going to serve,” Grimm said.Reelected in November, he was is set to be sworn in to a new term inJanuary.

Prosecutorsasked a judge to sentence Grimm on June 8th to 24 to 36 months ofjail time. His defense team suggested 12 – 18 months.

Isn\’t it wonderful that this nice fellow, so willing to admit everything he was charged with is true after the election, is determined to serve his term in congress?

The problem, however, is that if grimm is going to be serving any term, it is far less likely to be in the capitol building than in a different kind of building – where the food may not be as plentiful as it is in the house dining room, but there will be no shortage of bars.

There are a lot of things for michael grimm to be ashamed of; with one of the most significant being that he ran for congress at all.  Common decency should have dictated that, as a guilty party willing to admit to at least one felony, grimm should have dropped out and left the race to an honest candidate.

Republicans should – must – tell him to resign his sorry backside immediately, or they\’ll take action to do it for him.
