THE DEBATE

Very limited time to blog today, personal matter involved. But I did want to put up some quick thoughts on last night’s New Hampshire debate.

Joe Biden:  Trying to sound more aggressive, getting confused on words here and there as usual and, to hear him tell it, responsible for every good thing that has happened in the United States for the last half century.   Exactly the formula that has moved him from 1st place to the middle of the pack. He better pray that super Tuesday is super for him.

Bernie Sanders:   Bug-eyed and screaming out his harder-than-hard left mantra.   Just the same as he has been for decades… which, in today’s left-lurching Democrat party is a very successful way to be.   The probable winner in New Hampshire.

Elizabeth Warren:   A boring angry scold. ranting out the same “rich people are bad everyone else should get everything for free and rich people should pay for it” meme again and again. Unlikable, and not believable. On a downward spiral and, as of last night, probably continuing in that direction.

Pete Buttigieg:   A very smooth, polished talker. Sounds very sensible until questioned on specifics. Then, not so great.  Joined the others in making it clear he would not have taken out soleimani.  Was terrible on the question about marijuana arrests for Black citizens when he was Mayor of South Bend, Indiana – which would be disastrous for him in a national election.

Amy Klobuchar:   Intelligent, well spoken.  A fine center-left alternative. Too bad she’s not going anywhere.   Maybe a Vice presidential nod, though.

Andrew Yang:  Mr.  “Everybody should get a $1000 a week to spend”. Other than that, an articulate poised businessman who is way, way out of his element on a presidential debate stage.

Tom Steyer:   The political equivalent of a rich guy who goes to a casino, loses money, throws more money in to get back his losses, loses it as well, and winds up minus a fortune, with nothing to show for it but smiling casino owners.  Still trying to convince us that the economy is in terrible shape, which resonates with exactly no one.  Politically, a loser on steroids.

  • I can’t stand to listen to Democrats, but I steeled myself to sit thru at least a couple minutes of last night’s debate.
