Multiple sources are reporting that Chuck Hagel is resigning as Secretary of Defense – either that or he has been told to resign, which is marginally more pleasant than just being canned.
I have to admit I have no opinion on this.
I never got any sense that Hagel was a player in this administration, nor that President Obama ever intended that he be one.
To me, Hagel was more a Republican toss-in, meant to create a sense of bipartisanship (a little like Democrat Norman Mineta serving as Secretary of Transportation in the Bush administration). It didn\’t work, of course, any more than it worked for Bush. These things rarely do.
I won\’t miss him. I barely remembered he was there.
