With so many Obama administration scandals, and so many examples of ineptitude and incompetence, it is not easy to keep up with them all. But I\’m trying.
Here is the latest on the IRS scandal, excerpted from Susan Ferrechio\’s article for the Washington Examiner:
Upto 30,000 missing emails sent by former Internal Revenue Serviceofficial Lois Lerner have been recovered by the IRS inspectorgeneral, five months after they were deemed lost forever.
TheU.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA)informed congressional staffers from several committees on Fridaythat the emails were found among hundreds of “disaster recoverytapes” that were used to back up the IRS email system.
“Theyjust said it took them several weeks and some forensic effort to getthese emails off these tapes,” a congressional aide told theWashingtonExaminer.
TheIRS, in a statement provided to the Examiner, said the agency and IRS Commissioner John Koskinen is fullycooperating with the investigation.
“AsCommissioner Koskinen has stated, the IRS welcomes TIGTA\’sindependent review and expert forensic analysis.” The IRSstatement said. “Commissioner Koskinen has said for some time hewould be pleased if additional Lois Lerner emails from this timeframe could be found.”
How interesting. After being told multiple numbers of times that, by accident of course, all of lois “liar” lerner\’s emails were missing and presumed dead, along with the emails of pretty much everyone around her who might have put incriminating information on them – and after no one who knows a thing about how backup systems work believed them – 30,000 emails suddenly materialize.
But should we be excited about this? Should we be thinking “aha, now we\’ll find out everything that really happened”? I don\’t think so.
Since Commissioner John Koskinen came across, at least to me, as arrogant, pompous, and fully invested in protecting the IRS and the Obama administration, I would not at all be surprised if these emails had little of value.
Remember the old Bill Clinton trick? When asked for information, he would have his people unload as much extraneous garbage as they could come up with…and while investigators were wasting weeks and months sifting through it, Clinton would be telling the public things like “as you can see, I gave them 150,000 documents. And, 150,000 documents later, they still can\’t find a thing wrong, so they want even more.”
Since it worked for Clinton then, I would not at all be surprised if this is the strategy now. So you\’ll pardon me if I am not optimistic about these emails.
Let\’s hope my skepticism is unfounded.
