My thanks to Richard Rowe. He has – not intentionally, I assure you – provided a belly laugh for anyone who has even the slightest bit of reading comprehension.
Mr. Rowe currently has a blog at the hardest-of-hard-left crooksandliars.com, titled “In 2007 George W. Bush Revealed The GOP\’s Global Agenda Now And Forever: \’Money Trumps Peace\'”
Now that is one ugly agenda. If Republicans really are on board with “money trumps peace”, how could any decent person vote for them or with them?
Except…
….here is the entire basis for Rowe\’s accusation. It comes in the form of an exchange between a reporter and then-President Bush regarding the difficulty in getting our allies to agree to sanctions being placed on Iran:
REPORTER:A Lot of our allies in Europe do a lot of business with Iran. so, Iwonder what your thoughts are on how you further tighten thefinancial pressure on Iran in particular if it also means economicpain for a lot of our allies?
BUSH:See, that\’s an interesting question. One of the problems – notspecifically on this issue, but just in general – that, uh…let\’sput it this way: Moneytrumps…um…peace. Sometimes. Inother words, commercial interests are very powerful intereststhroughout the world. And part of the issue is in convincing peopleto put sanctions on a specific country, is to convince them that it\’sin the world\’s interests that they forgo their own financialinterest. And, John, that\’s why it\’s sometimes hard to get tougheconomic sanctions on countries.”
Did I miss something? Can someone show me where President Bush stated this as the Republican agenda?
All I see is him saying that commercial interests can make it hard to convince people that sanctions should be imposed. Which is absolutely correct – so much so that Rowe himself admits it. In his own words (before trashing Bush) he says “Credit where it\’s due, that is a pretty accurate observation. A simple truth, really.”
If, given this admission, you cannot figure out how Rowe would then attack Bush for saying something he completely agrees with, and claim Bush suggested it is the overall Republican agenda, I urge you to use the link I\’ve provided and read his entire blog. I guarantee the rationale will fascinate you,
When someone is willing to go this far to contort nothing into something and create an issue where one does not exist, you can either get angry (which does you no good) or just laugh (which is an enjoyable activity).
Me, I laughed.
