I\’m sort of assuming that anyone who knows a thing about Bob Schieffer would dispute the above title.
But not the hate-crowd of regular commenters over at one of my “favorite” (in a manner of speaking) hard-left web sites, crooksandliars.com. A good many of them have decided that Mr. Schieffer is both of those ugly things.
Why? How did a man with decades of reliably liberal-left thought and an unswerving commitment to racial justice suddenly fall into such a dissolute state in the minds of these C&Lers?
Well, it seems that, while hosting yesterday\’s Face The Nation, Mr. Schieffer said this:
“Butyou know one of the undercurrents in this election, and I think oneof the ugliest parts of it, there are some Democratic ads running outthere suggesting that if African Americans don\’t vote for theDemocrat, that they\’re going to get shot like that poor kid inMissouri.”
Let\’s start with the fact that Schieffer\’s comment is absolutely true. In fact, over the past several weeks I have posted several of the ads Mr. Shieffer must be talking about. Here are two of them:

Ok, so why are the C&L commenters so furious over Schieffer saying something that is so obviously true?

-Schiefferhas always been a right winger. He let that slip many times over theyears. I recall seeing him on TV when when President Kennedy wasassassinated and he referred to liberals as loonies. He hides hispartisan politics a lot better nowadays and uses his age andmanicured voice to present a partisan picture disguised by hisnonpartisan seasoned old wise man role playing.
-Itwon\’t be long and Bob will be talking politics to the cream puffdessert tray at the rest home still thinking that he\’s talking to hisaudience…
-Shieffer\’shissy fit underscores exactly why targeted ads are necessary. Whitepeople just don\’t get it…Shieffer\’s just another white talkinghead, like all the others in the media, who shrug their shoulders andsay “racism?” What racism?”
Nice, huh?
And let\’s remember, please, that these are the same folks who call other people racist, and attack their lack of civility.
