I wish I were surprised by the Washington Post’s lame attempt to rationalize the inexcusable, blatantly partisan behavior of House Intelligence Committee chairperson adam schiff (D-CA).
But today’s Washington Post being what it is, I’m not surprised at all.
Here are the first two paragraphs of Rachael Bade, Karoun Demirjian and Colby Itkowitz’s article for the Post, giving that rationalization its best shot:
House Republicans on Saturday pressed ahead with their efforts to move the impeachment inquiry away from President Trump, calling on Democrats to add witnesses to the probe including former vice president Joe Biden’s son and the whistleblower whose initial complaint kicked off the investigation.
The GOP demands were met with immediate skepticism from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), who warned against “sham investigations” of the Bidens and other issues in a clear signal that many of the witnesses were unlikely to be called.
Well, if nothing else you have to admire the sheer blatancy of this attempt.
This “impeachment inquiry” is based on the claim that President Trump threatened to withhold foreign aid from Ukraine unless it dug up dirt on Joe Biden. The specific dirt was that he used his power and influence as Vice President to get his kid, Hunter, a $50,000 a month “job”on the Board of Directors of Burisma, a Ukraine energy company, which Hunter Biden had exactly no qualifications for other than that Joe Biden is his daddy.
And this article describes calling Hunter Biden to testify as an effort “to move the impeachment inquiry away from President Trump”???
That’s like saying that asking for Michael, Sonny and Fredo to testify was an effort to move the investigation away from Don Corleone.
The saddest part? There are people who are going to keep convincing themselves that the Washington Post is the same paper it was years ago, and reflexively accept this ridiculous premise seriously.
I truly pity them.
