DEREK JETER\’S CAREER ENDS

Derek Jeter was the Yankees designated hitter today, in Boston – because he asked that the last game he played at shortstop be in Yankee Stadium.

In his second at bat, he hit a “Baltimore chop” – a ball bounced so high that the infielder could not make a play.  It drove in a run.

Manager Joe Girardi signaled to Jeter, asking if he wanted to go out then, and Jeter said yes.

So ends one of the greatest baseball careers of all time.

I love the sign one of the fans held up, which said (I think I\’ve got this right):  “Don\’t cry that it\’s over, be glad that it happened:  1995 – 2014”

That\’s excellent advice.

The only player I can think of who was in the same league as Derek Jeter….was also on the same team, and played with Jeter for all but one of those years:  the equally great Mariano Rivera.

Try and find two greater players, or classier gentlemen.  And then give up.  Because you can\’t.
