Exerpted from Ben Brumfield and Carma Hassan\’s article at cnn.com, we have this… just days after Ferguson, Missouri\’s police chief made a feckless fool of himself by apologizing for Michael Brown\’s death before the investigation made any conclusions, thus implicitly suggesting his own police officer, Darren Willson, with an absolutely clean record during his 6 years as a cop, must have acted improperly:
Apolice officer patrolling in Ferguson, Missouri, was shot in the armlate Saturday, police said. His wound is not life-threatening, and hewas taken to a local hospital.
There\’sno reason to believe the shooting was connected with demonstrationsover the August police shooting of unarmed African-American teenMichael Brown, authorities said.
“Itdidn\’t happen within the proximity of the protest area,” saidSt. Louis County Police Chief Col. Jon Belmar. The shooting scene wasin a more secluded area.
“Iwouldn\’t have any reason to believe right now that it was linked inany way, shape, manner or form with the protests,” he said.
Still, the shooting stoked emotions among protesters who were on the streetdemonstrating over Brown\’s death.
“Allthe hate\’s got to stop,” Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson told agroup of demonstrators after the shooting.
Healso said some people who took part in protests over Brown\’s shootinghave threatened to kill a police officer.
Are you reading what I\’m reading? St. Louis County Police Belmar tells us “There\’s no reason to believe the shooting was connected with demonstrations…”, but he also says some people who took part in protests over Brown\’s shooting have threatened to kill a police officer.
There have been threats to kill a police officer, a police officer is shot, but there\’s no reason to make any connection.
Let me say that the circumstances of the shooting (which you will see if you use my link and read the entire article) suggest Belmar is correct and it is unrelated to Ferguson. But to say there\’s no reason to believe they are connected, while knowing threats have been made to kill police officers?
What if they catch the guy and he turns out to be one of the people making such threats? What if his idea was to lure a police officer to a secluded spot and shoot him there?
Maybe Mr. Belmar should take the advice I gave Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson – i.e. to stop talking until he actually know what he\’s talking about.
What\’s wrong with these people?
