Excerpted from today\’s article at reuters:
Theforeign ministers of Germany and Britain said on Thursday they wouldnot be taking part in air strikes in Syria against the Islamic Statemilitant group.
GermanForeign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told a news conference inBerlin that Germany has not been asked to take part in the airstrikes and would not be participating. “To quite clear, we havenot been asked to do so and neither will we do so,” Steinmeiersaid.
…asked by Reuters after his meeting with Steinmeier about PresidentBarrack Obama\’s proposal for air strikes against IS in Syria, (British Foreign Minister Philip) Hammondreplied: “Let me be clear: Britain will not be taking part inany air strikes in Syria. We have already had that discussion in ourparliament last year and we won\’t be revisiting that position.”
When George Bush went into Iraq, he had UN approval. He had an authorization vote from congress. And, depending on whose count you accept, led – not from behind but from the front – a coalition of between 37 and 48 countries.
Now we have Barack Obama claiming he is going to take on ISIS (or ISIL as he calls it). Without UN approval. Without a an authorization vote from congress. And with a “coalition” of 9 countries — except two of them – arguably the most important two – are assuring us that they will not participate in air strikes, which is the only thing Mr. Obama says we will do.
Pathetic doesn\’t even begin to describe this.
