Congratulations to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for winning his primary over an opponent, Zephyr Teachout who, despite the fact that almost nobody ever heard of her, managed to get something like 40% of the vote anyway.
My congratulations, by the way, are not sarcastic. They are serious. That is because the reason Cuomo did so poorly against Ms. Teachout is that she is a hard leftist, and Andrew Cuomo – at least on some fiscal issues – is not. So the far left crowd (most of whom will vote for Cuomo in the general election anyway) got their bile out on primary day. I hope they feel better. Personally, I feel better that Cuomo is not the doctrinaire, take-no-prisoners leftist they wish he was.
On a less positive note, I also congratulate Governor Cuomo for being the beneficiary of our mainstream media\’s ridiculous level of bias – as shown by the fact that, other than the New York Times (all credit to the Times on this one), almost all of them gave his scandalous closing of the Moreland Commission the one, maybe two day and out treatment.
Last year, when New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was accused of orchestrating the closing of a couple of lanes on the George Washington Bridge for a few days, it was lead-story news in virtually every media venue for a month. (FYI: no evidence has ever been uncovered proving he was responsible for those lane closings…and even if he was, what are we talking about? A few lanes being closed on a bridge?)
By contrast Andrew Cuomo was accused of shutting down an ethics commission he himself put into being, because it started looking into the people around him. And, unlike Christie\’s possible involvement in the lane closings, there is no doubt whatsoever that Cuomo closed down the ethics commission.
That is not a concocted scandal, it is a real one.
But the same media which could not stop talking about Christie, barely even bothered to tell the public about Cuomo.
So today is Andrew Cuomo\’s day…and it is a pretty good bet that, come election day, he is going to beat Republican Rob Astorino (County Executive of Westchester County who also has had an interesting, and diverse, career in radio) to win re-election.
Then, in 2016, if Hillary Clinton decides to run (I remain very doubtful that she will), he may well be the guy she will be looking, worriedly, over her shoulder at, to see how fast he\’s gaining.
