ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: THE ICON-BUILDING CONTINUES

This would be a really big deal if anyone still read Time Magazine.

From Ben Feuerherd’s article in the New York Post:

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will grace the front page of the April 1 edition of Time Magazine, a report said early Thursday.

The Bronx-native, who shook the Democratic establishment by defeating longtime congressman Joe Crowly in 2018, appears in a headshot taken by photographer Collier Schorr next to the headline: “The Phenom.”

The story accompanying the front page, written by Charolette Alter, describes Ocasio-Cortez as “the second-most talked about politician in America,” according to CNN’s Brian Stelter.

In the piece, Alter describes Ocasio-Cortez as the “Wonder Woman of the left, Wicked Witch of the right,” according to CNN.

Yes, it is true that Time is a shell of its former self.  But even in its debilitated state, the fact that it features Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on its cover (has it put Melania Trump on the cover in over two years as our First Lady?) tells you plenty about how media intend to continue building her into an icon of the Democrat Party…

…for which Republicans should be thanking them every day.

A “phenom”?  Yes she is, in the sense that media are giving her nearly minute-by-minute coverage daily.  And do not doubt that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s opponents are compiling lists of her embarrassing comments/proposals (of which there are many).

Not just Republicans either.  Maybe, also, a fellow named Joe Crowley, who just might want to regain the congressional seat he held for 20 years until he underestimated her into his early retirement.

If I were a Republican strategist, the three Democrats I would most want media to keep in the public eye would be Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, ilhan omar and rashida tlaib.   And, as of now, I’d be saying to myself “So far, so good”.
