The House Intelligence Committee’s Republicans have come to a conclusion about possible collusion between the Russia and the Trump campaign in 2016’s election, and the committee’s leading Democrat has reacted to their conclusion.
From Patricia Zengerle’s article at Reuters:
U.S. House Intelligence Committee Republicans said on Monday the panel had finished investigating Russia and the 2016 U.S. election, and found no collusion between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Moscow’s efforts to influence the vote.
The committee Republicans said they agreed that Russia sought to influence the election by spreading propaganda and false news reports via social media. However, they disputed the findings of the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation that Moscow sought to aid Trump, who won a surprise victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
“We’re through with interview phase. We’re now in the report drafting phase,” Republican Representative Mike Conaway, who has led the panel’s investigation for the past year, told Reuters.
Representative Adam Schiff, the top committee Democrat, strongly disagreed, and blasted the announcement as a premature shutdown.
Really? No kiddin’. Who’d have guessed Republicans would come to this conclusion and Adam Schiff would disagree with it. This is right up there with a bulletin that the Sun rose in the east this morning.
But, sarcasm aside, there is a reality to deal with here. The Republicans’ conclusion, predictable as it might be, makes all the sense in the world.
After almost two years of every Democrat looking through every nook and cranny to find collusion between Russia and Trump, they haven’t come up with so much as one piece of hard evidence that any such collusion took place. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
And Adam Schiff, for all his insufferable bluster and his seemingly endless series of interviews on the subject, has produced exactly that. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Democrats promise to put out their own series of conclusions about such collusion. If it is like their “rebuttal memo” (and why would we expect it to be any different?) there will be lots of innuendo tossed and names named – with, evidence-wise, the same nothing, nada and zilch referenced above.
Now: is this when mainstream media jump in and demand that we start talking about the Russia/Clinton connection? The one WITH actual evidence – and plenty of it?
Don’t bet on that happening, folks. Wrong party.
