Democrats are again threatening to shut down the government unless children who were brought to this country illegally get protected legal status through DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). And Republicans say no.
From Richard Cowan and Susan Cornwell’s article for Reuters:
House Republicans considered on Tuesday a stopgap bill to fund the U.S. government through Feb. 16 to avert a shutdown, but the measure would not include Democrats’ demands for protections for young people brought to the United States illegally as children.
Partisan finger-pointing over immigration policy on Tuesday left Congress and the White House stumbling closer to a possible federal government shutdown by the end of the week.
Republicans who control Congress are expected to try to push another stopgap funding bill and get it to President Donald Trump’s desk before a midnight Friday deadline when existing money for federal agencies expires.
A few quick notes about this potential “government shutdown” are in order.
If it happens, and it runs like other shutdowns in the past:
-All essential services will continue;
-All workers in non-essential services will stay home until the impasse is resolved…but they will wind up being paid for the time they were off (i.e. it’s a paid vacation);
-The country will run just fine, thus demonstrating how non-essential they really are (at least for the short run);
This is the Democrat threat????
In truth, the “threat” is no big deal at all. But you can count on mainstream media treating it as a huge issue — and blaming it 100% on Republicans – as they have done every time in the past, regardless of Democrat involvement.
In other words, in the immortal words of Yogi Berra (or so the legend goes), it will be deja vu all over again.

When there was a Democrat in the white house it was the Republicans fault and now that theres a Republican in the white house its the Republicans fault, are the Democrats ever responsible for anything…….
Steve. it is a Heads I win Tails you lose situation.
If the shutdown occurs and non-essential gov’t workers are sent home, they eventually will be called back, and will be paid for the ‘furloughed’ days.
Since they will get paid for the missing days, do they have to give the gov’t all the shopping bargains and all the fish they caught while on furlough ?
