FROM THE “YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP” FILE

This is not satire.  It is real.

From Anders Hagstrom’s article at dailycaller.com:

California can now start jailing people that refuse to use the preferred gender pronouns of nursing home residents after Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill Thursday.

The law’s effect is limited to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, but mandates that those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” can be slapped with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the California Heath and Safety code.

Yeah, OK.  That was a necessary law, wasn’t it?

Let’s see:  if there is someone at a nursing home or long-term care facility who decides he/she wants to be called a different gender than his/her biology indicates, and a caregiver at that facility insists over and over again on calling that person what the biology says he/she is, they’re going to fine and incarcerate the caregiver?

Hey, here’s an idea:  why not have the facility instruct caregivers that the rules there require calling transgenders what they have decided they are, and not doing so will cause them to be fired?  Is it my imagination or does that solve the problem right there.

But no.  California is not interested in common sense solutions like that.  It intends to make a statement.  So we have a law forcing people to say what the state thinks they should say – until a new administration comes along and maybe changes what they are forced to say.

Does this make sense to you?  If so, I suggest that if you are not currently a California resident you relocate there immediately.  It will be like heaven…unless you don’t believe in heaven, in which case maybe I should be fined and jailed for mentioning it.
