ABOUT THAT DIFFERENCE IN DEATH TOTALS…..

This is for anyone who makes the mistake of associating the relative number of war deaths with which side is right and which is wrong.

With a major tip of my imaginary hat to Philip Klein at washingtonexaminer.com, here is a chart of comparative death totals.  But it is not from the current Israel/hamas conflict; it is from World War II:

See that disparity between the USA and Germany?  It is huge, isn\’t it?

That must mean the United States government and armed forces were the bad guys, right?  That we must have been oppressing those nice nazis.  I mean look at how many poor hitlerites died compared to us.  We must have been the bad guys.  Damn that Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Or…..

Maybe it means that there is no tie between the success or failure of a war effort and who is right and wrong.  That maybe, if we\’re very lucky, the good guys not only win, but suffer far fewer deaths than the bad guys.

How about that – does it make more sense?

I kinda thought so.

Incidentally, I strongly urge you to use the link I\’ve provided and read Mr. Klein\’s entire article, titled “Five reasons why comparing Israeli and Palestinian death totals is a misleading way to judge the conflict”.  It is excellent.
